If you are fishing from a bow, if you are like most people you prefer conventional rod and reel. Most of these conventional rods have relatively stiff action. The reason so many fishermen prefer this, allowing you to present a heavier bait. It also allows unparalleled stopping power when you are fighting with big fish who are heading for rocks. Reels that contain a 30 to 50 pound test is generally used in place of other lines, and may be done with either monofilament or braided lines. Keep in mind, that ye are typically using a leader system. This means that you should not have as many broken lines.

For many, they prefer the three-way rig. This involves a three-way swivel using at least 50 pound test. Once you are certain you have a strike you must set your hook quickly.  Remember, the fish is going to try to head back to the rocks for self preservation. It’s your job to ensure that he does not make it.  If you lean back on your rod a bit, you’ll lessen the drag available to the fish.  You’ll likely feel this pulling in every muscle in your arms and shoulders, these blackfish do not give up that easily.  You can wear him out by getting him away from the rocks and letting him fight the side of your boat until he wears out a bit and then grab him with a net. If local regulations allow, add a couple to your catch of the day as they make a wonderful meal.

January 2010

On January 2nd client Marc de Speville was on board the Nice n’ Tight and had a field day, catching four 10lbs. Black tunas and a 30lbs. Dorado. Then on January 4th client Matthew Rempel stayed right on the tail end of the Dorado bite. At the end of a half-day fishing they had caught two nice Dorado, one 30lbs. and the other a whopping 45lbs.

January 10th brought Don Dingman, host of TV’s Hook the Future, on board the Wanderer to film an episode. Hook the Future is a show dedicated to teaching youngsters the finer points of fishing, and Don found some lucky kids from the Nosara area to take part. On the Wanderer they caught and released three Sailfish ranging from 80lbs. on up to 110lbs. They also caught five Dorados weighing 40lbs.-60lbs. The next day he fishing along the Nosara river and filmed another episode.

February 2010

On the 1st of February client Terry Schwartz booked the Nice n’ Tight for a quick 3 hour trip. Captain Eduardo expertly put him right on a nice tuna bite, and in virtually no time at all Terry had boated two outstanding Yellowfin Tuna ranging from 10-12 lbs. These babies made for some delicious eating! For several years now the Nice n’ Tight has been the gold standard for under-25′ boats in Garza, and it appears that reputation is safely intact

On January 25th, 26th, and 27th theWanderer was honored to welcome Captain Kevin Faver, his wife Carrie, and the crew of The Outdoors Show for a few days of fishing and filming. Kevin and Carrie repeated last year’s success by catching four Dorados and releasing seven Sailfish. Also Kevin released one of the nicest Rooster Fish of the year so far.

On February 8th client Kristen O’Connell booked a three hours sunset cruise and we are happy to report that she caught five nice-sized Black Tunas. Her party also enjoyed swimming around Playa Rosada. Remember that all FishingNosara boats can be used for snorkeling, surfing, and sightseeing trips as well as fishing. On February 10th Kristen Case caught a 12lbs. White Tuna and a 10lbs. Black Tuna on a sunset cruise.

March 2010

On March 3rd client Hunter Tyree had all kinds of bites popping the lines. On just a three hour trip he caught three Black tunas and a nice 12lbs. White tuna. Captain Vibert’s experience on the nearby reefs consistently provides clients this kind of action-packed fishing.

Just ask client Lee Apgas, who was on board the Cabo on March 9th. He also signed up for a three hour trip and in that short time he reeled in five Black tunas and a beautiful 13lbs. Yellowfin tuna.

Things got off to a fast start on February 20th when client David Yudelson put the local Black marlin population on the run. They had action in the spread all day and lost an angry 500lbs. tail-walking Black Marlin. David and the boys hung tough, and later in the day they caught and released a Black Marlin around 250lbs. He finished his day off with some topwater casting a caught a variety of reef fish. Great day David!

Client Submitted Report - March 5th, 2010 client Derek Pouchnik of Viola, Idaho: “We had a great day on the water with William, David and Alex. We drove down to the office on the day before our fishing trip and met Manuel who was very pleasant and made sure we knew where we needed to be the next day.”
“We fished for quite a while with nothing then seemingly out of nowhere ‘fish on’ and we eventually landed a beautiful sail fish (110lbs!). We got some nice photos and let him go. Then probably an hour or so later we picked up a gorgeous Dorado of probably 45-50 pounds! My wife caught that one and that was really what she had dreamed of getting. So, that pretty much made the trip for her.”
“Alex made us up some nice fresh sushi with a bit of wasabi and soy, mmm…..We tried hard to get my sister into a good fish but that was it. We did have I think two other fish in the spread but nothing on the hook. It was a great trip. We were very happy with the crew and the work they did.”

April 2010

Client Bob went fishing on the Nice n’ Tight on April 9th and had a very respectable showing catching a 12lbs. Pompano, a tough little needlefish, and a nice Black tuna. Captain Eduardo brought out the big gun for a three day booking with client Stiff from April 10th to the 12th. The first day on theSportsman was highlighted by a whopping 50lbs. Dorado. Things got even better the next day when they released a 100+lbs. Sailfish. On the final day then caught and released a 30lbs. Rooster fish. With a man like Captain Eduardo at the helm, you can have these kind of multi-species days, or hammer on tuna all day long. Bottom line is this man catches fish!

Captain Vibert Blanche took the brunt of the slow early March, but he has been picking it up in April and has kept steady with some great nature tours. On March 26th Stephanie Kawalik took a great Nature Tour. They saw more than 20 nice dolphins with different colors. Also, they got some pictures of a baleen (that’s Whale in Gringo) and a couple sea turtles.

On April 7th the Grove party was all over the Dorados and then finished their day off strong with a late-afternoon Black Marlin release. Even though the month started off slowly, great crews like the Wanderer’s have the skills to keep clients on fish and fish on hooks. Now that the Marlin have showed up big time, there in no reason not to expect more awesome trips.

May 2010

Captain Eduardo has been fishing like a madman in the last month, and he has theNice n’ Tight back on top of the leaderboard. He’s had a great mix of sunset cruises, nature tours, and flat-out billfish hunting…the common thread? Lots and lots of smiling clients. On April 19th Captain Eduardo welcomed Jacksonville client Van Evans and his girlfriend for the first of two days fishing. Van owns a great little seafood restaurant in Florida and is no stranger to some great looking fish. Their first sunset cruise netted them a nice macarella and a ponpano. A few days later they had another awesome sunset cruise catching a delightful white tuna and a beautiful amberjack.

That same morning clients Crissy, Rich, and Robert caught five nice white tunas in just a few hours fishing. Captain Eduardo knows how to stay on the fish, evidenced by two trips on the same day catching the same species fish. His experience on these waters give him the competitive edge.

Captain Eduardo stayed busy with another booking on April 26th with clients Bruce and Dwyane. The rods were bending all day long and the boys came home with a 12lbs. yellowfin tuna, a 15lbs dorado and several black tunas. Great action all day long is what the Nice n’ Tight  is all about.

On April 26th clients Dwayne and Katrina fishing for a half-day on the reefs. They applied our FishingNosara Cuberra Tactic and caught a beautiful 30lbs. Cuberra snapper. They rounded out their day with four sweet whites tunas. The next day client David Caywood went hunting for the big boys.

Unfortunately they didn’t get so big by being easily caught and despite raising up a Sail and a big-time Marlin they couldn’t get ‘em hooked up and to the boat. Client Daniel Fero also had an action packed day on May 4th, albeit with limited results. He got some dinner in the form of a big Yellowfin tuna, but lost a pair a Cadillac-sized snappers on the bottom. Likewise for client Bobby Leesman on May 10th, who fished a full day on came away with a 30lbs. Yellowfin tuna. He also has action throughout the day, but the fish were tough to catch.

June 2010

Captain Vibert welcomed client Fredrick Porcase, his son and Chase Crews out for two action packed days. These clients had spent three days on the Wanderer chasing down billfish, yet chose the Master Captain for their assault on the reefs.

The Cabo did not disappoint! On June 14th the group caught twenty 15-20lbs. Yellowfin tunas and a pair of 12lbs. Yellowtail snappers in the morning. In the afternoon they caught two amazing 40lbs. Rooster fish and a 25lbs. Cuberra Snapper. Then on June 15th the party caught another 40lbs. Rooster fish, four 15lbs. Yellowfin Tunas, and two MASSIVE 50lbs. Amberjacks.

The highlight of Captain Eduardo’s month came on May 18th client Michael Coleman and his wife caught a released a HUGE Blue Marlin. It was the first lifetime Marlin catch for both of these clients; once again FishingNosara delivers the fish of a lifetime via the hardest-working man in Garza: Captain Eduardo Carillo.

Jacksonville angler Dennis Dahlquist also had a 300+lbs Marlin release on a late-May trip on the Wanderer; As usual Captain William was on top of his game. I was joined by fellow Jacksonville angler Ray Carter and the lovely Georgia peach Paula Price for a great trip on theWanderer on May 30th. The weather was just about as perfect as could be imagined and the party had a fantastic array of catches.

In total we caught a mean little 20lbs. Wahoo, a 30lbs. Amberjack, a 35lbs. Cuberra snapper and two 12lbs. Yellowfin tuna. The highlight of the trip was a pair of 100+lbs. Sailfish releases. Paula showed her skills on the reel as both fights were under ten minutes and both fish were released.

Recently Renee Taylor and family booked the Wanderer on June 16th and had a magnificent day. They released a 250lbs. Striped Marlin and a 120lbs. Sailfish and a nice Yellowfin tuna to the mix…call this a perfect end to a great month of fishing.
